Elbląg to miasto w województwie warmińsko-mazurskim, jest to najstarsze miasto w województwie, a jedno z najstarszych miast w Polsce. Elbląg to ośrodek przemysłu ciężkiego (np. produkcje śrub napędowych do statków), spożywczego (browar Grupy Żywiec), przemysłu meblarskiego i turystycznego (np. Kanał Elbląski ze słynnymi pochylniami). Największy rozwój miasta przypadł na czas między 1 czerwca 1975 roku, a dniem 31 grudnia 1998 roku, kiedy miasto było stolicą województwa.
Elbląg zlokalizowany jest w historycznych Prusach Górnych, na terenie dawnego bałtyckiego terytorium plemiennego Pogezanii. Jest to też część Powiśla. Elbląg jest jednym z najlepiej zbadanych archeologicznie miast w Polsce, dzięki czemu miejskie muzeum posiada unikatowe eksponaty, jest wśród nich np. średniowieczna winda.
