Zakopane - zimowa stolica Polski

Zakopane stanowi duży ośrodek sportów zimowych i największą miejscowość w bezpośrednim otoczeniu Tatr. W granicach administracyjnych Zakopanego znajduje się duża część Tatrzańskiego Parku Narodowego. Na północy Zakopanego znajduje się pasmo Gubałówki, na południu Giewont. 


Od 2002 co roku na Wielkiej Krokwi odbywają się zawody Pucharu Świata w skokach narciarskich. Wiele razy odbywał się tutaj Puchar Świata w kombinacji norweskiej. 

Główną atrakcją Zakopanego są oczywiście Tatry, ale turystów przyciąga także kolej „Gubałówka” (linowo-terenowa), kolej na Kasprowy Wierch (linowa), kolej „Butorowy Wierch” (krzesełkowa). 

W Zakopanem rozpoczyna się wiele szlaków turystycznych prowadzących w Tatry i Pogórze Spisko-Gubałowskie. Można stąd wyruszyć na Kasprowy Wierch, Przełęcz między Kopami, Halę Gąsienicową, Dolinę Pięciu Stawów Polskich, Morskie Oko, Czarny Staw pod Rysami, Rysy,  Halę Kondratową, Giewont, Gubałówkę.
